The unit of currency in Zimbabwe is the Zimbabwe Dollar (Z$), which is divided into 100 cents. Foreign currency is widely accepted (US$ preferred). International visitors must pay for their accommodations in foreign currency, preferably US$.

Major credit cards are widely accepted, but incur high charges. Some lodges and restaurants do not accept Diners or American Express. Credit cards are not accepted at petrol stations.

Visitors are advised to take travelers cheques in US$ or Pounds Sterling. Hotels and lodges usually offer a better exchange rate than the banks. Also carry some cash in these currencies – preferably in small bills. Be aware that if you pay for anything in foreign currency you will be given change in Zimbabwe Dollars – currently unstable.

Banks are open Monday to Friday: 08:00 – 15:00 (Wednesdays banks close at 13:00)
Banks are open Saturdays: 08:00 – 11:30
