Visas and Immigration

All visitors should have a passport valid for at least 6 months after the proposed length of stay. There should be a sufficient number of blank pages for entry stamps.

All visitors to Zimbabwe require a visa – other than nationals from the following countries:- Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, USA, Japan, Nationals of commonwealth states (excluding Bangladesh, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka).

Most visitors requiring visas can obtain these upon arrival. However, we recommend that you check with your Consulate or Embassy before travelling.

Generally road conditions in Zimbabwe are good. Almost half of the national highways are paved and even the gravel roads are mostly well signposted. We recommend that visitors to national parks and game reserves have a 4x4 vehicle.

Driving is on the left side of the road, and international visitors can use their valid driving license (with an English translation if necessary).

Trains and Buses

A good rail network connects Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare and Victoria Falls. Most rail travel takes place at night and sleeping compartments are available. Fares are very cheap, and it is advisable to book as far in advance as possible.

Express buses run scheduled services beteen major destinations and are mostly very comfortable and efficient. You need to book in advance.

Domestic air services connect the tourist destinations of Victoria Falls, Kariba, Masvingo, Gweru and Hwange National Park as well as Harare and Bulawayo. Charter air services operate to more remote air strips, which can be booked as part of your safari package.

A departure tax of US$20 is payable (not applicable to children under 12 years). Payment is in US$ cash only.
