Adventure Holidays in Kenya

DNA samples have suggested that the ‘original Adam’, or the father of man, was more than likely of a darker complexion and that Kenya was the site of the original Garden of Eden. With this in mind, it is not difficult to understand why this East African nation has become one of the most popular holiday destinations on the planet, with Kenya adventure holidays ranking tops.

Natural and diverse wonderland

Kenya is a wondrous land of sublime beauty where the snow capped peaks of Mount Kenya compete with the vast aquamarine lakes of Nakuru, Victoria and Naivasha. It is a land that embraces no fewer than twenty national parks, offers outstanding game viewing and boasts a vibrant coastline with marked Arab influences.

Hike Mount Kenya

Hiking is a popular adventure activity in Kenya, largely motivated by the fact that it is host to the second largest mountain on the continent. Only Mount Kilimanjaro eclipses Mount Kenya in height – but certainly not in splendour. Fully guided hikes up this challenging peak are conducted by us but be warned: only the supremely fit should attempt this summit.

White water rafting

White water rafting through the remote gorges of the Malewa River is another impressive allure with waterbuck, impala, bushbuck and even the shy leopard all included in this trip. Paddlers are treated to a meal at an indigenous Kikuyu homestead where rural living is put under the microscope.

Adventure cyclists

Hells Gate National Park is the prime destination for adventure cyclists. For the physically fit, a safari adventure would not be complete without saddle-sore limbs. Here you will cycle through spectacular canyons where the rock formations rival raptors in all their fine plumage. Adrenalin nuts can take the challenge a step further by rock climbing or abseiling off the rugged cliffs.

Explore a dormant volcano

Those who have no fear of confined spaces will find the underground exploration of the dormant volcano of Mount Suswa an interesting challenge. Fearless participants of this safari adventure will first have to abseil through a collapse hole en route to discovering the estimated 16 kilometres of underground lava tubes.

Swim with the dolphins

But if land-locked activities don’t appeal to you as much as coastal ones do, make for the seaside city of Mombasa where you can swim with the dolphins in their very own expanse of coral-encrusted ocean and then snorkel around in awe of the colourful variety of creatures that inhabit the warm Indian Ocean.

One of the premier safari destinations, Kenya adventure holidays are varied enough to suit all age groups, fitness levels and even purse strings.
