Adventure Holidays in Swaziland

This small, land-locked country is a superb example of living according to African traditions and beliefs. The warmth and friendliness of the Swazi people, and the country’s reputation for visitor safety will make your stay in Swaziland unforgettable. The Adventure Holiday business is growing here, and with dramatic mountains, torrenting rivers, beautiful nature reserves, and wild game parks, Swaziland is the perfect place for an African Adventure! For that much-desired adrenalin rush, try parasailing, snorkeling, rafting, kayaking, mountain climbing, horse riding and caving! Combine that with great game viewing, and you have the ingredients for an awesome safari adventure!

White Water Rafting

Swaziland has the best white water rafting in Southern Africa south of the Zambezi! ½ day and full day guided rafting trips on the Great Usutu River with Grade II to Grade IV rapids. Rafting in various formats is available 365 days a year, with departures guaranteed for a minimum of 2 persons!
½ day rafting available all year. Full day option is available November – May. Rafting in 2-man inflatable “croc” rafts with local river guides in kayaks.

White Water Rafting / Abseiling / Tubing Combo

Combine a ½ day white water rafting with an afternoon of exciting ropework alongside the thundering Holomi Waterfall. The abseiling site at Holomi waterfall is particularly scenic with a vast moonscape of granite rocks carved into numerous potholes, twirls and towers of smooth rock.  The abseil is aimed at beginners and is not particularly high, however the staging area is quite exposed and even experienced abseilers will get a little bit of a rush from this gnarly take-off.  Abseiling is not offered in the summer months as it can be uncomfortably hot sitting on top of a cliff...when the river is really the place to be.
Not interested in abseiling? Then why not re-run the last section of white-water rapids by tube.  White-water tubes with handle holds and high volume buoyancy are used for this wild and wet afternoon!
Note - Combo packages available June to October.

Quad Biking

Quad biking in Swaziland’s Ezulwini Valley is an experience not to be missed. Take to the tracks on the Devil's Cauldron Quad Trail – an 8km track purpose built to push you to your limits. Utilising a landscape scarred by tin mining, and now fully reclaimed by nature, the Devil’s Cauldron Quad Trail offers 1 and 2 hour guided rides.

Adventure Caving

Swaziland is famous for Adventure Caving, and cavers of all abilities can explore the unique Gobholo Cave system in true speleological fashion … climbing, crawling and sliding through a myriad of gaps and passageways, with headlamps, battery packs and plenty of mud, bats and total darkness! Expect belly crawls, body jams, crouches and rope-assisted scrambles.
The caves were formed by an ancient boulder choke, which has been further opened and eroded, into subterranean chambers by the passage of water through softer rock material. This is the only known major cave system in granite rock in Southern Africa and thus presents a unique geological experience. The system can be compared to a giant underground gravel pit and portions of the cave remain unexplored. A minor river flows through the bottom of the cave, which can only be reached by athletic and competent groups. The cave location is scenic with tall mountains and surrounding forested areas.
½ day guided tours depart 08h30 and 16h00 from Ezulwini. Evening tours finish with an informal dinner and a dip in a nearby hot spring!

Canoe Safaris

Take a guided canoe safari down the Maguga dam. The dam is surrounded by mountains, forests and rural homes, and provides the most scenic view of Swaziland. This ½ day (10km) flat water canoe safari combines with an afternoon either abseiling or hiking to see Bushman Paintings for a full day’s adventure.

Swaziland Wildlife

Swaziland has two established game parks, and several excellent nature reserves. Mkhaya (near Mbabane) and Hlane (in the north east of the country) offer best opportunities to see big game. Combine day tours or longer stays at one or both reserves for the ultimate Swaziland Adventure Holiday.
