Beach Holidays: Bazaruto Archipelago
Enjoy an unforgettable beach holiday on the Bazaruto Archipelago in Mozambique, just 30 kilometres off the coast of Vilanculos. The Bazaruto Archipelago consists of four principles islands of which Bazaruto Island is the largest and probably most well known. Benguerra Island, Magaruque and Santa Carolina (Paradise Island) complete the archipelago.
The Bazaruto Archipelago's islands were formed hundreds of thousands years ago by sand deposits from the Limpopo River and various tectonic forces several hundred kilometres to the south. These movements caused small islands of sand covered with shells to form which over time, developed into the beautiful Archipelago we see today.
The Bazaruto Archipelago islands offer true tropical paradise escapes, with white sandy beaches and tall tropical palm trees offering a tranquil setting for pure relaxation. Fish and marine life team in abundance in the crystal clear waters, and over 230 bird species have been documented on Bazaruto Island. Enjoy superb diving and snorkelling along the magnificent coral reefs, and fishing enthusiasts can fish for big game fish such as marlin and sailfish. The islands form part of the Bazaruto Archipelago National Park - one of the largest marine parks in the Indian Ocean - home to the endangered dugong.
There are some lovely lodges on the islands, offering guests privacy and laid-back barefoot luxury.
